Daddy Needs to Sleep Today

Person holding a children's book titled 'Daddy Needs to Sleep Today' by Shaan Caskey, illustrated by Logan Burns, with an illustration of a girl with blond hair and a concerned expression.

Shaan's journey with brain injury began after a severe concussion in 2011, leaving him feeling like a "zombie" for eight months. Despite ongoing challenges, including fatigue and sensitivity to noise and light, he felt inspired to write a children's book, Daddy Needs to Sleep Today, after a touching moment with his daughter, Willow. She brought him an iceblock when he was unwell, highlighting her empathy and prompting Shaan to create a tool for explaining brain injury to children. He quickly wrote the story, capturing their family's experience from a child's perspective, and collaborated with local artist Logan Burn for the illustrations. Shaan hopes the book will help normalize the need for downtime among families with similar challenges, offering understanding for children about their parents’ health issues.
